Recently, my family had their kitchen redone, and the result is absolutely stunning! Anyone who knows my mom knows that she has great style, and this kitchen is a true reflection of that! I wish the pictures did it justice!
Functionally, this kitchen is awesome now. My mom added a convection oven, a warming drawer, a pretty awesome fridge/freezer, a new dishwasher (that the dogs love, just like the old one!), and many other things I’m forgetting. One of my favorite new features is the huge granite island. Before, there was a stovetop in the middle of it! Now, the great space can be used for prepping food as well as entertaining and serving guests.
Stylistically, the kitchen has improved a lot too. No more white floors! (IMPOSSIBLE to keep clean, was my mom’s lament!) The coloring is darker and snazzier, a mix of modern and quirky vintage. I love the contrasting counters, and gorgeous wooden cabinets. Note the cool wall detail and the knob from Anthropologie! My mom is so creative.
I hope I get to design a dream kitchen someday. Between seeing this one transform and seeing Chris’s Aunt Kitty’s dream kitchen at the lake house this fall, I am hooked! I definitely think it’s a wise thing to do later in life though. Aunt Kitty and my mom both knew exactly what they wanted in their ideal kitchens because they had been cooking for years and knew all of the things that they loved and that they hated! I think they actually picked the same fridge, by the way. So fun!
