Good food is more than just the ingredients. Good food is an art.
There are over 7500 varieties of tomatoes in the world, and the majority probably would have been delicious in this pasta dish. However, in my opinion, the cherry tomato was a perfect friend for the gnocchi because of its shape.
The highlight of this simple meal was the harmony of forms and textures. From the farmer’s market gnocchi to the roasted cherry tomatoes to the tiny globs of fresh mozzarella, this dish was swimming with flavor amongst the eye-pleasing continuity. And each of the sphere ingredients gave you–not only a different taste, obviously–but a different texture. Everything worked together.
Besides the rounded stars of the show, applause also goes to a supporting role (ha ha): homemade tomato meat sauce with an array of spices.
Food doesn’t always have to appear complimentary and symmetrical to be delicious… but sometimes, a little bit of thought and order can really pay off.
