Let me just be clear. Do-it-yourself projects are not my forte! Don’t come to me for ideas on what to do with your blank walls or how to make snazzy birthday cards. I would not even be good at putting birds on things! As much as I love creating in the kitchen, I am just not gifted when it comes to crafting. Every now and then, however, something turns out okay… and when this happens, I have to share.
It’s holiday card season! Even though Christmas is just a few days away, we are getting most of our cards right now — and it’s understandable. It takes a lot of work to gather addresses, take and/or select the perfect photo, buy stamps, label envelopes, etc. Every year at this time, Chris and I excitedly add to our fridge each day, rearranging magnets and cards so that we can see all of the lovely photos. While it can be a fun process, it also feels like a complicated puzzle every time we get new mail! Maybe we just need to buy more magnets, but we’ve had more than one occasion in which we’ve enthusiastically grabbed something from the fridge — only to close the door and find several cards scattered on the floor.
This year, it struck me that maybe I should try to do something nice with all of the beautiful cards we receive. Thanks to Pinterest, I found Mom Endeavors’ creative guide to making a Ribbon Christmas Card Holder to go over a door. Fantastic!
I was too lazy to borrow a glue gun from my mom, so I decided to alter the instructions a bit and just used a stapler. We also happened to have an over-the-door hook from an old hanging shoe organizer, so I modified the top of the contraption as well.
This holder looks perfect on our coat closet door near our little entryway space. It’s a nice greeting for those who walk in the door, and you can see it from many different places in our condo too. I’m still doing some rearranging as cards come in, so we’ll see if I’ll be able to fit everything — but it’s working well so far! Total Cost = Under $10.
