Hello, world! I’m surfacing for a moment out of the depths of grad school and a recent role change at work. I’m out in Fairfax three nights a week for school this semester, plus quite a few Saturdays. Whenever I’m not doing homework, I’ve been trying to keep my old job afloat before my backfill starts — while also putting in the extra time that naturally comes with starting a new job.
It’s been exciting overall. I’m in a more relational role now and am feeling challenged everyday. I’m wrestling (in a good way) with imperfections and insecurities. And… even though I’ve been quiet here, my few social plans lately have involved eating some delicious stuff!
The snow came at a great time this week. I worked from home on Thursday, rescheduled most of my meetings, and focused on planning ahead. It was especially exciting that class was cancelled!
My favorite place to go when it snows is Fuego Cocina y Tequileria in Clarendon, about a ten-minute walk from our place. Fuego usually runs snow deals (just check out their active Twitter feed) and while most of the specials this past Thursday were offered during the day, we were at least able to make their standard weekday happy hour that goes until 7:00pm.
It was easy to make a dinner out of Fuego’s happy hour. First, chips and salsa are brought out right away. We then ordered traditional margaritas and the house guacamole, both of which are $5 during happy hour. For our entrees, we each went with the torta de carnitas, a slow fried pork sandwich with black beans, avocado, and chile jus — also $5 for happy hour. To cap it all off, we took advantage of Fuego’s “cocktail del dia” for $5! On Thursdays, one of my favorites is featured, the jarritos paloma (Espolon Blanco tequila, lime juice, and Jarritos grapefruit soda). Yum!
I hope you were able to get a bit of a break with the snow this week as well! Have a wonderful weekend!
