I can’t think of a more manly restaurant name than “Bourbon Steak” — and I suppose that’s why Chris has chosen the place for two of his birthday dinners over the past couple of years! It’s an interesting fact that Bourbon Steak was cut from Washingtonian‘s Very Best 100 Restaurants for 2015 — but Bourbon Steak Lounge, their bar area, has remained on the list!
As I mentioned, we had dined at Bourbon Steak before for Chris’ birthday. On our way into the restaurant, located in the Four Seasons hotel in Georgetown, we walked by the very hip lounge and decided immediately that we had to come back to spend time there. (As a side note, on our way out of the restaurant that year, we ran into the Denver Nuggets basketball team in the hotel lobby!) With the lounge on the list and Chris’ birthday last month, we decided to check it out and get some of the classiest burgers, fries, and cocktails we’ve ever had. Get ready for some ritzy photos.
For our drinks, Chris was feeling adventurous and asked for the Dealer’s Choice cocktail — ending up with a delicious concoction including a high-end brandy and cherry flavors. I was the opposite of adventurous and tried Bourbon Steak’s spin on one of my go-to drinks, the BSDC Gin & Tonic (Tru organic gin and house-made tonic with hints of lemongrass, orange, ginger, and grapefruit). It was wonderful.
Chris also tried the Companion. He liked his first cocktail even better, but I enjoyed the sip I tried. I’m not usually a brandy-drinker, but the combination (Jim Beam brandy cask finish, cointreau, fresh lemon, cinnamon, with a cinnamon-sugar rim) was right up my alley.
For our food, we knew we wanted to order the Trio of Duck Fat Fries, as we had tried it on our last visit — and it comes with an array of delicious sauces. Chris went with the specialty burger of the night, a spicy Ethiopian Burger. I stayed true to my heritage with the Berbere Spiced Lamb Burger.
These burgers were hard to eat, but definitely tasty!
Bourbon Steak is definitely a special occasion sort of place for us, but it was the perfect way to celebrate Chris’ birthday. The lounge is quite glamorous, and what might have seemed like a simple combination–burgers, fries, and cocktails–was taken to the next level here.
