I am not a dessert connoisseur, so I always get really excited when I find a recipe that works out well. Strawberries are still in season right now… and they are the perfect ingredient for a fresh sweet treat.
When I was tasked with bringing dessert to a recent dinner party, I flipped through Anna Watson Carl’s wonderful cookbook, The Yellow Table: A Celebration of Everyday Gatherings, for inspiration. Her strawberry shortcake recipe was perfect!
I wanted to bring a wine to pair with the shortcakes–but I’m not a huge fan of sweet dessert wine. After some consultation with a helpful staff member at Screwtop, I settled on Conegliano-Valdobbiadene’s Babbo Extra Dry Prosecco from Veneto, Italy and threw some sliced strawberries in for garnish!
Dessert–more than dinner, in my opinion–should be pretty. I felt like I created something lovely here, and was proud to share it with others. Buy Anna’s cookbook for the recipe. I’ve made quite a few of her dishes; for example, here and here!
