St. Mary Medical Center recently replaced its entire fleet of hospital inpatient beds with the advanced ProCuity® model by Stryker. These state-of-the-art beds are completely wireless and feature a low-height profile for advanced fall prevention, providing increased comfort and safety for both patients and caregivers.

St. Mary Medical Center staff prepare the ProCuity® hospital beds by Stryker for placement in patient rooms.

“Maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and care is at the core of everything we do,” said Janice Ryba, CEO, St. Mary Medical Center. “These new beds were evaluated and selected by our nursing and support staff. They will provide the comfort and support patients need during recovery, help to improve patient outcomes, decrease risk of falls and assist our caregivers.”

Each bed has wireless technology that connects seamlessly to the nurse call system and provides a dashboard at the nurses’ station of all bed data, including bed configuration and exit alarm activity. Three-position side rails allow for easier patient entry and exit as well as nurse-patient interaction. By working in a “clocking motion,” the side rails stay tightly close to the bed, avoiding unnecessary interference with any medical equipment next to the bed.

ProCuity’s unique bed alarm uses advanced technology that senses a patient’s weight and will alert nurses if a patient is out of position or has left the bed. With ProCuity’s iBed® Watch system, all operational aspects of the bed, from side rail positioning, head of bed angle and height, are monitored to ensure that it is always in a safe position for the patient. Caregivers are alerted immediately if any components are out of position. All of these features add up to helping the patient care team save time and improve workflow while reducing the patients’ risk of falls.

The new Stryker hospital beds at St. Mary Medical Center feature fully wireless technology with intuitive touchscreens for easy operation.

The versatile beds are able to accommodate patients from any floor in the hospital, from a general medical/surgical patient to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This also reduces the need for bed transfers or specialty beds.

“The innovative ProCuity bed system is the culmination of years of extensive research and feedback from nurses and other healthcare professionals to create what is truly a ‘brilliance in a bed’ solution,” said Jessica Mathieson, vice president and general manager of acute care at Stryker.

While many hospitals have other advanced technology bed systems within their facilities, St. Mary Medical Center has completed a full conversion to the advanced Stryker beds in every inpatient room.

“With the ProCuity bed system, St. Mary Medical Center is further demonstrating our tradition of delivering excellent patient outcomes in a comfortable healing environment,” Ryba added.
