Vermont Business Magazine Rutland Regional Medical Center has once again received an “A” grade from the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, this time for the Spring 2022 grading period, and remains the only hospital in Vermont to receive this grade. The “A” grade is a national distinction recognizing Rutland Regional’s achievements in protecting patients from errors, injuries, accidents, and infections.
“The nurses, physicians and all of our staff are proud, but more importantly pleased, that our hard work to provide the safest patient care available has been recognized by the Leapfrog Group,” said Melbourne Boynton, MD, Chief Medical Director of Rutland Regional Medical Center. “Our ‘A’ grade from Leapfrog is due to the culture of collaboration, caring and excellence at Rutland Regional.”
The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization committed to health care quality and safety. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to all general hospitals across the country and is updated every six months.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,700 U.S. acute-care hospitals. It is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospitals’ prevention of medical errors and other harms to patients in their care.
“As our health care system continues to feel the strain of the pandemic, I thank the workforce and leadership of Rutland Regional Medical Center for their sustained commitment to patient safety, day in and day out,” said Leah Binder, President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “An ‘A’ Safety Grade is an outstanding achievement, and one that is not possible without a 24/7 effort by the entire health care workforce to protect patients from harm. This community should be proud.”
